We live in a world whose abundance would have been unthinkable of even hundred or two-hundred years ago. But even beyond the economic side there have been surprising changes. Within the 20th century the democratic and participartory type of regime has prevailed. Todays dominant rhetorics pick up the idea of Human Rights and political freedom. The average human life-expectancy is higher than ever and the various regions of the world are connected to each other like never before. Not only for Trade, Labour and Communications but also for the exchange of ideas and ideals (s. Sen, Amartya, Development As Freedom, 1999).
